Wheelchairs for Kids
Retiree volunteers produce and distribute free to children in under resourced countries up to 300 rough terrain wheelchairs per month. These wheelchairs are built to WHO recommendations, are fitted with postural support devices and are adjustable to suit children of all sizes.

Partner Org.: Wheelchairs for Kids
Wheelchairs for Kids is managed by the Rotary Club of Scarborough Western Australia with support from the Christian Brothers who provide a workshop manager. The project is 100% voluntary with the Western Australian State Government paying the rent of our 3 workshops and the Rotary Club the remaining overheads. This means that every cent donated is used to buy materials for the wheelchairs.
Due to these facts, our 100 retiree volunteers produce a high tech rough terrain wheelchair with cushion, for only $125. We also provide where needed, postural support devices and padded straps. Distribution is through established and qualified aid agencies that also provide the freight costs.

This wheelchair, redesigned by our workshop volunteers with technical advice received from the NGO "Motivation" and others, is built and tested to WHO recommendations for strength, stability and durability. The wheelchair is completely adjustable to suit the necessary medical comfort of children of all sizes and their growing needs.
A properly adjusted and fitted wheelchair can alleviate suffering; a badly fitted one can cause serious harm through pressure sores and postural problems.
Hundreds of ladies throughout Australia knit knee rugs and dolls to accompany the wheelchairs. We are supported financially by over 150 Rotary Clubs, 250 Schools, many private donors and businesses.
